In the early 2000s, Jose Carlos, a multiple-time world champion and one of the leaders of the Famous Kimura team from Natal, Brazil, popularized the word "Acoita."

Borrowed from the world of rodeo in northeastern Brazil, it translates to "whip" or "lash."

Jose Carlos adapted this expression to motivate BJJ fighters before stepping onto the mat.

Today, it continues to be used worldwide, championed by renowned athletes like Leandro Lo (RIP) and Buchecha.
